Recycle for Nottinghamshire

The County Council, District Councils and Veolia working together in partnership

This website is intended to tell you everything you need to know about recycling in Nottinghamshire.

It is owned and maintained by Nottinghamshire County Council on behalf of partners Ashfield District Council, Bassetlaw District Council, Broxtowe Borough Council, Mansfield District Council, Newark and Sherwood District Council, Rushcliffe Borough Council and Veolia Environmental Services.

All these partners are currently working together to provide consistent messages about recycling in the county, before the opening of a new Materials Recycling Facility (MRF). When it opens near Mansfield early next year this facility will process all of the items you put in your household recycling bin; up to 85,000 tonnes each year from all over the county. These materials will be sorted before being bulked up and sent on to other facilities for them to make new products.

However, before the new facility opens, contamination levels in the household recycling bins needs to be reduced. Otherwise, small amounts of contamination - when the wrong thing is put in your recycling bin - can lead to whole loads being affected and sent to landfill.

A new publicity campaign aims to help you put the right things in your recycling bin, so find out if you are Bin Smart ?

What will your Christmas tree leave behind?

Nottinghamshire County Council will plant an oak tree in Sherwood Forest in your name when you recycle your Christmas tree.

Recycle your Christmas tree at your local Household Waste Recycling Centre and collect an Acorn Voucher. This voucher entitles you to dedicate a newly grown oak tree to someone or something special in a commemorative book that will be kept at the Sherwood Forest visitors’ centre.

You will also receive a specially designed commemorative coin and scroll to remind you of the part you played in this legacy for future generations to enjoy.

The saplings being planted come from acorns dropped by the Major Oak and have been grown at Nottinghamshire County Council’s Sherwood Pines Nursery.
