My waste services
Who does what with Nottinghamshire’s waste?Broadly speaking, the district and borough councils are responsible for collecting rubbish; they are referred to as ‘Waste Collection Authorities’ or WCAs.
They provide kerbside collections for all households in their area. In Nottinghamshire all the local councils provide wheeled bins from which they collect your general waste and dry recyclables.
In addition, some also offer garden waste collections, which are also from wheeled bins, and some offer kerbside glass collections.
They also provide 'bring site' recycling facilities. These are the recycling containers or banks typically located at supermarkets, leisure centres and public car parks.
In addition they provide bulky collections services. This enables you to dispose of household items that are too large or heavy for your regular kerbside collections. Items will typically be collected, for a small fee, from outside your home.
For full details of any of these services including information about collection dates please contact your dsitrict or borough council.
The County Council is responsible for arranging for the disposal of the waste; it is the ‘Waste Disposal Authority’ or WDA.
The County Council also provides the Household Waste Recycling Centres and delivers waste education services in schools.
Please note that Nottingham City Council is a unitary authority. This means it is resoponsible for all waste management functions (collection and disposal). If you are a Nottingham City resident please contact Nottingham City Council for information about the services they provide.
